MADISON 37 HELENA 6

REXBURG - After struggling out to a 6-0 first half lead, the Madison Lionz completed a strong Rocky Mountain Football League regular season in style, putting up 22 third quarter points behind big touchdown runs from Josh Black (14 yards) and Dustin Simmons (20 yards) and cruising to a 37-6 win over the Helena Titans. The Lionz offense was sluggish throughout, but finished a great second quarter drive when quarterback, Dave Allen found tight end, Shane Bean for a 20-yard touchdown pass to take the early lead. The Lionz received especially strong defensive effort from Rodney Peach (6.5 tackles, 1.5 sacks), Greg Rammell (6 tackles) and Dustin Simmons (5 tackles, 1-1/2 sacks) as well as Jade Lewis who put the game away midway through the fourth quarter when he picked up a fumbled pass attempt by Helena quarterback, Shane Jurasek and raced 15-yards for a touchdown to close out the scoring. The Titans offense struggled even more, however, behind a relentless Madison rush which sacked Jurasek on 6 occasions, picked off two passes and recovered two fumbles, including the big play by Lewis. The Titans defense was lead once again by ex-Kodiak, Spencer Steiner (12 tackles, 1 sack) and Justin Lamb (6 tackles, 1 sack). The Lionz (6-2) now await the announcement of their next playoff foe while the Titans (3-5) will visit Mini-Cassia (3-5) in the quarterfinal round of the RMFL playoffs.
