June 8, 2002 Helena Titans vs. Mini-Cassia Bulldawgs
HELENA 18 MINI-CASSIA 15
RUPERT - Brian Hilborn kicked 3 field goals, including the game-winning 37-yarder in the Titans first possession of Kansas City Overtime, to lead the Helena Titans to an 18-15 win over the Mini-Cassia Bulldawgs. It was the second game in league history that was decided by overtime. The first, a playoff game in Boise between the Roughriders and the Bozeman Kodiaks, won by the Kodiaks when Kodiak kicker, Jason Peters kicked a 48-yard field goal.
The game was a defensive struggle throughout with the halftime score only 8-3, Mini-Cassia ahead. The score was still only 8-5 with less than 5 minutes remaining in the game when the fireworks began. Leighton Lindsey caught Bulldawg punter, Craig Manning in the end zone after blocking the punt early in the 3rd quarter to pull the Titans to that 8-5 score, which lasted for almost the rest of the game until with only 3:23 remaining in the game, Hilborn hit his second field goal to tie the game at 8-8. Bulldawg quarterback, Manning then lead an impressive drive down the field and capped it off with a 10-yard touchdown toss to Robert Carrick. With the score 15-8 and only 2:24 remaining in the game, the Bulldawgs made a tactical error and kicked away.... to Hollis Huggins, Huggins ran the kick most of the way back to the Bulldawg 25-yard line, setting up the game-tying score, a one-yard plunge by Shane Jurasek with 0:35 remaining on the clock. In the first possession of Kansas City overtime, the Titans could not muster a first down, but had confidence in Hilborn, who had connected on two of four earlier field goal attempts, this attempt being the longest. Hilborn came true after the Bulldawgs possession resulted in an Titan interception. The Titans (4-5) stayed alive in the 2002 playoffs and next travel to play the defending RMFL Champions, Pocatello (7-1) Saturday at Marsh Valley High School.
