POCATELLO 44 TREASURE VALLEY 6

BOISE - The Pocatello Silverbacks all but secured their third straight post-season appearance with a resounding 44-6 road victory over the Treasure Valley Panthers behind a big game from "the usual suspects" + 1. Reigning MVP, Jeff Belnap had a big day passing for 230 yards and 3 touchdowns while rushing for a fourth. Brock Gunter had another dominant day catching 9 passes for 129 yards and a touchdown to add to his league-leading total. Running back, Troy Sutton rushed for 58 yards and a score and caught 4 passes for 31 yards and score to chip in on offense (to go along with 5-1/2 tackles on defense) and defensive MVP candidate, Trent Sutton lead the team with 7 tackles, 1 interception, a recovered fumble and a blocked kick in the defensive domination.

The Silverbacks picked up a big game, however, from an "old" team star. Jared Anderson returned to the team two weeks ago and because of the Great Falls forfeit saw his first action against the Panthers. Anderson was part of a dominant Pocatello rushing attack of two years ago when it was not surprising to see Anderson and 2001 rushing leader, Tyler Wheatley both rush for over 100 yards in a game. Anderson returned to action for the S-backs to lead the team in rushing with 64 yards and 2 touchdowns; he also recorded two defensive tackles and an interception on defense.

The Silverback defense came up with perhaps their biggest effort of the season as along with Trent Sutton, was big days from Aaron Ransom (7 tackles), Jake Ball (7 tackles), Troy Sutton and along with the great Silverback tackle play of O'Hearn and Perry, long-time Rocky Mountain Bull/Silverback, Tyler Dahlke also returned for a solid game at defensive end with 3-1/2 tackles on the day.

For the Panthers, all-star bound Aaron Crawford had another strong defensive performance, recording 7 tackles and a sack for the defense. Bob Mares picked up 6 tackles. For the Panther offense, the absence of Manzo Hodge was truely felt as it struggled early and often. Quarterback Dustin Vandermeer would have had a good day, completing 12 of 17 passes, only 5 of those passes were caught by 5 different Silverback interceptors. Yarmen Williamson fared little better at the qb spot, however, Williamson's only completion, for 20 yards did find his own teammate, Aaron Crawford. The usually potent Panther running game, struggled mightily without Hodge and fullback, Shawn Mares. The Panthers averaged only 2.9 yards a carry, however, take away Yarmen Williamsen's 12-yard touchdown scamper at the end of the game, and the average drops to 2.5 yards a carry.
