POCATELLO 13 BOISE 0

MARSH VALLEY - On a wind-swept afternoon in Marsh Valley, two old rivals, but friends teed it up once again to see "who wanted it the most" this day in Marsh Valley, Idaho. The Silverbacks and Roughriders were the areas biggest rivals, for a year, and now seem set to re-kindle that rivalry as the Pocatello Silverbacks edged the Roughriders 13-0 in a defensive duel, outlasted by the home team, once again. In fact, the home team has won every time with the Roughriders lone win coming on the one occasion they hosted the game in 2001. Penalties were down, emotions were in check and great defensive performances were turned in.

Trent Sutton lead the Silverback defense with 7 tackles and 2 interceptions. Both Sutton interceptions were in his own end zone putting a stop to potential Roughrider scoring opportunities. Roughrider linebacker, Zac Jockumsen, bested a 3-year old league record for tackles in a game, held by Joe Hirst of the old Great Falls Rangers. Jockumsen recorded a league record 16-1/2 tackles (as well as intercepting a Jeff Belnap pass) as he became very familiar with Silverback running back, Brent Belnap who rushed for 67 yards on 22 carries. After about the 10th time Jockumsen met Belnap, one observer thought he saw the two exchanging phone numbers...

The Silverback offense, however, proved to be just good enough as Jeff Belnap hooked up with 2-time RMFL Offensive MVP, Brock Gunter for another 7 times for 139 yards to help keep feild position during the course of the windy affair. Other solid defensive performances were turned in by Pocatello's Jake Ball (5.5 tackles), Troy Sutton (5 tackles) and Curtis Seutopka (3-1/2 tackles, 1 interception). Other Roughrider standouts included Dane Knickrehm (6 tackles), Smokey Percifield (4-1/2 tackles) and Bill Dennison (4 tackles).
