April 20, 2002 Boise Roughriders vs. Treasure Valley Panthers

BOISE - With 43 seconds remaining in the game, Manzo Hodge found tight end, Stewart Dennis in the end zone to lead the Treasure Valley Panthers past the Boise Roughriders 14-7. The game was a defensive struggle throughout with both teams enjoying some offensive success without much scoring. The first score came in the second quarter on another Hodge to Dennis pass which put the Panthers up 6-0 at half time. The game went the Roughriders way when, with 14:30 left in the 4th quarter, Roughrider defensive back, Casey Wittenborn picked up a Panther fumble and rumbled 54 yards to tie the score at 6-6. The usually reliable, Jim Slocum, who missed two makeable field goals which may have changed the complexion of the game, put the Roughriders ahead 7-6, a score which held until the last second heroics by Hodge and Dennis. Hodge lead the Panther offense with 171 yards rushing and also passed for another 94 yards and the two scores. Stuart Dennis pick up all 14 points including a two-point conversion. The Panther defense was lead by Cliff Robinson (12 tackles), Aaron Crawford (9 tackles) and Robert Tracy (6 tackles). The Roughriders got a strong performance from tailback, Jason Yates (22 carries, 101 yards) and defensively by Donald Nelson (7-1/2 tackles), Terance King (6 tackles), Smokey Percifield (5-1/2 tackles) and Wittenborn's touchdown. The Roughriders (1-2) next must face their 2001 nemesis and reigning league champions, Pocatello (3-0) while Treasure Valley (1-2) moves on to face perennial powerhouse, Snake River (2-1).
