REXBURG - Six different Madison Lionz found the end zone as the Madison Lionz cruised to an easy 45-6 playoff win over a "miscommunication depleted", but proud Boise Roughrider team. The Roughriders, who ended the 2001 season in a controversial flurry of altercations in the 2001 championship game, showed pride and poise in producing a quality iron man squad that enjoyed both offensive and defensive success throughout the game. The Lionz received big plays from John Clark (touchdown pass and punt return touchdown), Trevor Harris (2 touchdown receptions), Dave Allen (2 touchdown passes) and Greg Rammell (55-yard interception return for touchdown) as they got up early and coasted to victory. The Roughriders got a Herculean effot from 11 exceptional players, the biggest performances coming from Patrick "Train" Avent (17 carries, 80 yards, 4-1/2 tackles), Paul Dovel (17-33-1-170-1), and a career game from defensive back, converted to wide receiver, Jared Gast (12 receptions, 134 yards, 1 touchdown, 3 tackles). The Roughriders, who confirmed 25 players for the game, were victimized by suspicious information that many players received within 24 hours of the game. An investigation is being conducted from within the Roughrider organization. The Lionz (8-2) visit arch-rival, Idaho Falls (6-2) in the semi-final round of the RMFL playoffs Saturday, June 15th in Idaho Falls.
