Record fieldgoal lifts Kodiaks over Cardinals in overtime 17 - 14 game summary
Damon Gendron kicked an RMFL record 47-yard field goal in overtime to lead the Bozeman Kodiaks over the Boise Cardinals Saturday in first round playoff action 17-14 to advance to the semi-final round against the Wasatch Wildcats. The Cardinals enjoyed early offensive success, however, succumbed to a number of critical errors that erased scoring opportunities keeping the door open for the opportunistic Kodiak squad. Boise struck first, mounting a long drive in the first quarter capped by a Bill Martin 3-yard run. The Kodiaks had several other opportunities in the first half, however 2 long plays were called back by penalties and a drive to the Kodiak 10-yard line was fumbled away. Finally, late in the first half, Hollis Huggins capped a Bozeman drive with a 3-yard touchdown run, knotting the score at 7-7 at the half.

Midway through the third period, Huggins burned the Cardinals with an exciting 70-yard punt return into the end zone and a 14-7 Kodiak lead. The score remained 14-7 against the home team until with a few minutes remaining in the game, the Cardinals mounted a final desperation drive for their playoff existence. A key, 4th and 7 play was converted when tailback, Manzo Hodge took a lead run towards the line of scrimmage, turned around and lateraled back to quarterback, Dustin Vandermeer, who hit a diving Patrick Avent on the 1-yard line and a first down. Manzo Hodge leaped across the line for the game-tying score and forced overtime. The Cardinals won the toss and gained first possession, but were stopped "3 and out" and punted back to the Kodiaks. The Kodiaks drove down the the Cardinal 30 before being stopped, setting up the Gendron field goal.
