April 12th, 2003 Treasure Valley Panthers vs. Mini-Cassia Bulldawg

MINI-CASSIA 20 TREASURE VALLEY 0

RUPERT - Mini-Cassia Bulldawg's defensive linemates, Chuck Jones, Dustin Lapray and Corey Haynes continued the Bulldawgs resurgent defensive play as the trio alone accounted for 7-1/2 of the 10 sacks on Panther quarterbacks in leading the Bulldawgs to a 20-0 victory over a talented and gritty Treasure Valley squad. Lapray added to his two sacks last Saturday against the defending RMFL Champion Mustangs with another three sacks on the night to go with 4-1/2 tackles. Chuck Jones completed a "hat trick" by recording a sack, an interception and a fumble recovery. The fumble recovery was in the Panther end zone for the Bulldawgs first score of the game. That fumble was caused by a hit on Panther quarterback, Jeremy Harward, by defensive end Corey Haynes who recorded 2-1/2 quarterback sacks of his own.

Of course, the Bulldawg offense was not without it's own stellar performers. Lonnie Edwards rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown on only 10 carries and also caught four passes for 20 yards. Jeff May caught 3 Mike Manning passes for 63 yards as the Bulldawgs key receiver in the absence of Robert Carrick. Manning passed for 164 yards against a very solid Panther defense lead by Aaron Crawford (6 tackles), Bob Mares (5 tackles), Shaun Mares (5 tackles) and Rudy Thomas (3 tackles, 1-1/2 sacks). The Panther offense did receive a solid effort from Shaun Mares who rushed for 77 yards on 10 carries, including a 50-yard break-away run. Although the Panther pass blocking was poor, the run blocking was solid as the Panthers rushed for a team total of 108 yards, however, 145 yards in penalties ultimately cost the Panthers the game and nullified many of the positive gains made by the offense and some of the stops made by the defense. In all, 21 penalties were enforced on both teams during the game.
