REXBURG - The Idaho Falls Mustangs recovered from a 14-6 halftime deficit to score 5 unanswered touchdowns in the 3rd and early 4th quarter to drop the upstart Madison Lionz for their first ever defeat 49-27. The Lionz raced ahead early behind some timely passing by quarterback Dave Allen (11-26-4-101-2) and some key runs by backfield duo of Josh Black (14-109) and Dave Jensen (12-65). However, the Mustangs dominated in the third and 4th quarters getting outstanding efforts from the entire team, specifically from great offensive line front (Elfring, Munns, Brasier, Prows, Parkinson, Rogers) who protected quarterback Cody Jackson (15-28-2-205-3, 8-42 rushing) and opened gaping holes and knocking back a highly touted Madison defensive line for running backs Josh Clifford (11-59) and Rayce Bird (9-60). Also of significant effort was the Mustang secondary, lead by Roudy Kelly and Josh Richardson who two interceptions a piece as the 'Stangs shut down the Lionz passing game through much of the second half. The Mustangs also got another superstar effort from linebacker, Ron Childs who recorded 11 tackles and a sack, the sack knocking lionz quarterback, Allen out of the game midway through the 4th quarter. The Lionz (3-1) get to regroup on the struggling Fort Hall Cobras (0-5) while the Mustangs (3-1) return home to take on the surging Treasure Valley Panthers (1-2).
