MADISON 25 BOISE 24
BOISE - The Madison Lionz fought back furiously from a 24-6 defecit in the second half to steal a 25-24 victory over the Boise Roughriders in Boise. The Roughriders had two opportunities to score late to re-take the lead after Madison went ahead 25-24. The first opportunity was lost when quarterback, Tom Bennett fumbled the center exchange from Conan Perkins on the Madison 3-yard line, Andrew Ulberg recovered for the Lionz and the Lionz had but to run out the clock. Madison ran three plays to fall 1/2 yard short of a first down at the 15-yard line. The Lionz elected to go for the first down with 8 seconds left rather than risking a punt. Quarterback, Dave Allen's sneak attempt fell short. Boise took possession with just seconds left, however, Jim Slocum's 25-yard field goal attempt sailed just wide. Ulberg lead the Madison defense with 6-1/2 tackles, 1/2 sack and the key fumble recovery. Casey Wittenborn lead the Roughrider defense with 7-1/2 tackles. It was, however, two key defensive plays that swung the momentum of the game. The first, a Donald Nelson interception of a Dave Allen pass and returning it 45 yards for the score putting the Roughriders up 24-6 at the time, apparently putting the game away for Boise. Early in the 4th quarter, however, Madison's Tagg Williams returned the favor, picking off a Tom Bennett pass and returning it 40-yards to get Madison to within a touchdown at 24-18. The Boise offense was proficient as quarterback, Bennett passed for more than 300 yards, including 171 yards on 10 receptions to all-star receiver, Chance Leeds. The Madision offense was once again lead by team leader, Dave Allen who passed for 152 yards and rushed for another 47. The Lionz (5-1) finish the season at home, starting with defending RMFL champion, Pocatello Silverbacks (5-1), a game which could determine the number one playoff seed. The Roughriders (1-4) travel to Snake River (4-1).
