MADISON 25 TREASURE VALLEY 22

BOISE - The Madison Lionz continued to turn heads as they eked out a hard-fought 25-22 victory over the improving Treasure Valley Panthers in a game which featured the return to action of 1999 RMFL rushing champion, Manzo Hodge. The game, which had all the makings of a shoot-out in the first half (halftime score 25-22), turned defensive in the second half as neither team could push across a score after the break. The Lionz defense was lead by Andrew Ulberg (7 tackles, 3 sackes) and Jeff Jones (5 tackles, 1 fumble recovery). The Lionz offense was keyed by an outstanding performance from Josh Black (109 yards rushing, 2 Td's) and another strong outing by Dave Allen (103 passing yards, 39 rushing yards). However, the Lionz biggest key may have been the offensive line support for running backs Black and Dave Jensen, particularly stallworts, Nate Maw and Ken Palmer. Manzo Hodge's return to action saw him rush for more than 100 yards, including an incredible 40-yard touchdown run and he also threw two touchdown passes, both to star receiver, Lawrence Baldwin, as Hodge went most of the first half as the Panthers quarterback. Cliff Robinson lead the defense getting involved in 9 tackles, 7 unassisted. The Lionz (2-0) now prepare for the biggest test in their young career against the Snake River Rebels (2-0) while the Panthers (0-2) stay home for the grudge match of the century against the Boise Roughriders (1-1).
