LAYTON - The Mini-Cassia Bulldawgs opened up the 2003 pre-season with a grueling, hard-fought 14-0 decision over the UFL's Layton Longhorn's Saturday under the most difficult conditions. Constant rain earmarked the afternoon, leading to a sloppy first half in which 6 turnovers were committed. After the first half ended at 0-0 tie, the Bulldawgs pushed two scores across in the second half pulling away for the victory.

The road Bulldawgs were missing several key players, most notably, star receivers Robert Carrick and Dallas Hakes. The blue and white Bulldawgs who often feature a 5-receiver or "5-gun" offense turned more to the running game in the difficult conditions. New starting tailback, Jeff May put in an impressive performance, including a late 4th quarter 5-yard touchdown run to seal the game. Jacob Zemke scored the Bulldawgs other touchdown on a dive from 2-yards out in the 3rd quarter. Perhaps the Bulldawgs biggest star, however, was their oft maligned defense that kept the hometown Longhorns scoreless throughout.
