POCATELLO SILVERBACKS 41 MINI-CASSIA BULLDAWGS 19

The Pocatello Silverbacks recovered from a "bend but not break" Mini-Cassia first half defense to put up 41 points in the second half to pull away for a 41-19 victory over the charged up home town Bulldawgs. S-back quarterback, Jeff Belnap threw an RMFL record, 5 touchdown passes, including 3 to all-star wide receiver, Brock Gunter in what started as a defensive battle and turned into an offensive explosion from both teams. Gunter had a monster day and after the first half, the Bulldawgs simply had no answer for him as he hauled in 10 passes for 178 yards. Bulldawg star quarterback, Mike Manning, not to be outdone, threw for 3 touchdown passes and more than 200 yards passing, bouyed by the return of the spectacular Trent Vest who caught 6 passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns in his first game back since April. The game was also marked by the return to action of former Mustang quarterback and league MVP, Jared Neumeier (3-5-0-32-0), who saw limited action for the first time since the 2000 all-star game. Bulldawg star receiver, Robert Carrick also returned to action from what was thought to be a season-ending injury to catch 5 passes for 111 yards, including a 52-yard touchdown bomb to complete the scoring. Both rushing attacks were held partially in check, however, the vaunted Pocatello rushing game did muster 184 yards (Whitworth 64 yards, Jordan 36 yards, Belnap 36 yards) en route to a total offense output of 462 yards on the day. The Silverback defense was lead by defensive backs Cody Cunningham (8 tackles) and Trent Sutton (6 tackles, 3 interceptions). League-leading running back, Tyler Wheatley also saw action in support of the Silverback defensive front recording 3-1/2 tackles including 2-1/2 sacks. The Silverback defense dropped the Bulldawg quarterbacks for 6 sacks on the day. The Bulldawg defense was lead by all-purpose athlete, Lonnie Edwards (7 tackles), Ron Jones (7 tackles) and Mario Labra (6 tackles, 1 interception), however, it was just not enough as the Bulldawgs simply did not have an answer for the Silverback passing game.
