It looked to be a possible RMFL Championship preview... and it didn't disappoint. The Pocatello Silverbacks opened their inaugural campaign against the seasoned Boise Roughriders behind a dominating rushing attack accounting for almost 200 yards rushing against a much heralded Boise defense. The Pocatello linemen were the story as they dominated on both the defensive and offensive fronts throughout the game giving Silverback runners big yards including Tyler Wheatley (15 carries, 79 yards), Dan Chavez (14 carries, 54 yards) and Jared Anderson (5 carries, 44 yards). The S-back defense came up big when it had to behind Al Covington (9 tackles) and Chris Howerton (5-1/2 tackles, 1 sack). The Roughriders picked up the lead and momentum midway through the third quarter when defensive end, Stuart Dennis of the Roughriders blocked and intercepted a Jeff Belnap pass and rumbled most of 54 yards to paydirt when a Silverback offensive player positioned to bring him down, Dennis pitched to a trailing Aaron Crawford who danced the final 5 yards for the score. With the score 10-6, Roughriders, Dan Chavez capped a Silverback drive with a run to put the home team up for good 12-10. All-star wide receiver, Brock Gunter got the expansion team up for good with an exciting 31-yard grab from quarterback, Jeff Belnap and raced into the end zone for what would be a 20-10 lead in the fourth quarter.
