Team Preview by: Ed Cerise

The Logan Stampede comes in as the only new team to boast a roster full of players who have experience in the RMFL.  At press time, they are the most responsive of all teams when it comes to league issues.  The Stampede is lead by GM Dave Curtis who spent time with the Cache Valley Bears among other teams in his 8 year career.  The Stamped has benefited from being in the Logan area to attract players.  With teams like the Cache Valley Bears sporting up to 80 players it made sense for the Stampede to come into AA and allow some individuals the opportunity to play.

Offensive Outlook:

Former Cache Valley Bear Brandon Carlisle (5’-9 190) will lead the Stampede this season at QB after spending last year with the Bears.  At the tailback position will be KC Winslow (5’-11” 210) who will be in his first year in the RMFL. Lead blocking will be RMFL veteran Cade Lee (5’-11” 260) from the BRV Rockets.  The receivers are lead by Justin McDermit (5’-11” 260) formerly of BRV Rockets, Rich Howes (6’-4” 202), and tight end Cam Carter (5’-10” 260).  Protecting Carlisle will be Greg Christensen (5’-10” 315), Zane Lee (5’-10” 290) & Mark Bradshaw (6’-1” 220) who played with BRV Rockets, Dustin Cazier (5’-8” 174) and Cole Williamson (6’-1” 240). The Stampede do have a slight advantage over the Warriorz and Oilers in that they have quite a few veterans.  The Offense will struggle as all offenses do, and statistically they may be near the bottom they have the ability to put points on the board and will improve over the season if they can stay healthy.

Defensive Outlook:

Defensively this group has a lot of experience from various local teams and should be a pretty good defense.  In preseason action against the Bear River Rockets they were susceptible to the pass, but look for them to improve and learn from that game.  Statistically they should be a mid-level defense, if their offense can score and keep them off the field they should be a competitive team this season.  Leading that defense will be the front four led by 10-year RMFL Vet Sonny Wilkinson (6’-2” 315).  Alongside Sonny will be Travis Davis (6’-3” 295), Chesley Tracy (6’-8” 360), and veteran Nick Jensen (5’-9” 200).  In regards to all the new teams for 2008, this Line backing crew has tons of experience with Bryce Vicars (5’-10” 210), Dave Curtis (6’-0” 250) and Jason Butler (6’-0” 215) all of whom are RMFL veterans.  This crew is smart and will make plays for the defense.  As mentioned prior the secondary was suspect in their preseason game against the Rockets (now AAA) and will need to make some adjustments to make plays.  The secondary consists of Skylar Chambers (5’-8” 150), Brian Phillips (6’-0” 165) an 8 yr veteran, Ben Buttars (5’-8” 175), and Brendan Webb (6’-0” 175) formerly of the Bears. This group doesn’t have a lot of size but they do make up for it with speed.

SUMMARY:

Some of these guys have never played organized football before and some have played in the league for quite a few years. The Stamped want to win however, as Dave Curtis has stated, “This is for fun and nobody gets paid or wins a trip to Cancun. Most of our guys are just happy to be playing or playing again after a long break.”  I agree with Dave, if it’s not fun then why play.  Remember Winning is fun, with the best ran organization of the three new teams in the league the Stampede will make some noise in the RMFL.  I’m not positive they will make the playoffs this season but I would count them in starting next season if they build on the base they have now.
