Strippling Warriorz
at
(
Amid controversy and uncertainty of their program the Strippling Warriorz did just that. After going undefeated their previous two games this team found themselves in an unusual situation of having their first three games forfeited due to serious administrative items that had not yet been completed by Warriorz management. This team of showed up anyway for pride and to win a hard fought football game, and they did.
The first quarter opened with neither team taking a lead in this one as both teams played to a stalemate ending the first quarter with a 0 – 0 tie.
The second quarter saw fireworks from both teams, in what
Stamped GM Dave Curtis described, “From
a Stampede point of view this was a good game of line up and hit the guy across
from you as hard as you can. It was a battle between both teams.” Indeed it was, as the Warriorz struck pay dirt
first on a 17 yard pass from Funaki to Gutley (2pt pass good) with 10:37 left
in the second, the Warriorz would get on the board again three minutes later as
Funaki connected with Abe White on a 40 yard TD play (Kick Failed) giving the
Warriorz an early 14-0 lead in the second.
The Stampede wouldn’t go down without a fight as they were finally able
to get on the board as well as
The Warriorz carried their lead into the fourth and held on for a tough 14-6 “MORAL” victory as again the actual outcome was already determined before the game even started. Defensively the Warriorz were lead by Mike Maile with 8 tackles, Tevita Ofahengaue (3 tackles) and Sim Tiatia (2 tackles) each had sack, while Steve Andrews (4 tackles) and Kenton Gutley (1 tackle) each had an interception.
For the Stampede they were lead by Ben Buttars (7 tackles, 1 int), Bryce Vicars (7 Tackles), and Dave Curtis with 6 tackles. Although a hard fought game by both teams, the Warriorz showed the Stampede why they are one of the most feared teams in the league.
The Stampede will next travel to take on the Oilers for the second game between these two teams. The Stampede realize it’s going to be critical for them to win the majority of their games from here on out to make the playoffs.
The Warriorz, well the Warriorz fate is left in their own hands; if they can complete their obligations this week as outlined by the RMFL then they would basically have to win out the rest of their schedule to finish 5-3 to make the playoffs. If they don’t take care of their issues, the Warriorz season could be over this week. Stay tuned for further development.
