(Logan, UT) The Uintah Basin Oilers traveled to Logan to take on the Stampede in the first meeting of these two new AA teams and they did it with a bang as Oiler QB Jeremy Conetah got the ball rolling early as he hit Terry Shaw for a 32 yard strike that got the Oilers on the board early for 6.  Then instead of kicking the extra point the Conetah hit receiver Jeremy Gray for a quick two points taking an 8-0 lead into the second quarter.  However the scoring for the Oilers was short lived.

In the second, the Stampede got things going as RB Cam Carter got the Stampedes first points as he scored from 2 yards out (Kick Failed).  This cut the Oilers lead to 8-6, shortly after the Stampede would strike again as Bracken Atkinson hit Steve Mcleod with a 6-yard TD pass (kick Failed) now giving the Stampede a lead they would not relinquish as they finishes the second quarter with a 12-8 lead. 

The third quarter saw both teams struggle to score as the Stampede’s Zane Lee scored on a 4-yard scamper through the Oiler Defense.  This would be the only score of the third quarter for both teams giving the Stampede a 20-8 lead going into the fourth.

Although the Oilers never gave up, they were clearly over matched on this day as the Stampede would score two more TD’s in the 4th.  One a 30 yard pass play from Brandon Carlisle (Charlise run) and the second a 3 yard Charlisle scamper (Kick Failed).  This would give the Stampede a 34-8 lead that they would hold on to, to give them their first win of the season.   The Oilers on the other hand will be back to the drawing board trying to put the pieces in place to get their first win of the season. 

Defensively the Stampede was lead by Bryce Vicars, Dave Curtis, and Lee Porter who each had 3 tackles a piece.  Mark Bradshaw and Drew Augusts each had a sack as they were able to pressure Conetah to make poor decisions including throwing 2 interceptions that went to Chris Jones and Brian Phillips.

For the Oilers, they were lead by Steve Oldham who led all players with 7.5 tackles followed by two way star Conetah who had 5 tackles of his own.  Not to be left out, Garth Robison and Jake Jenkins each had an interception on Stampede QB’s. 

The Stampede next host the Warrirorz who are coming off of their 2nd win of the season and are leading the division.  The Oilers will next host the Eastern Idaho Lionz who are coming off a huge road win against the Great Falls Gladiators in blizzard like conditions.
