Morgan Marauders at Logan Stampede

(Logan, UT) Defense was the name of the game this week for the Logan Stampede as their defense was able to keep pressure on the struggling Maruaders all day as they were able to force 2 fumbles and 2 int’s.  The Stampede were lead by KC Winslow (6 tackles, 1 sack), Dave Curtis (6.5 tackles, 1 FR), Bryce Vicars also had 4 tackles and an interception, Brian Phillips (1 tackle) and Nick Jensen (2 tackles) also added 1 interception a piece.

After a scoreless first quarter the Stampede got on the board with a Carlisle 2 yard run (pass failed) to give the Stampede an early 6-0 lead.  After a muffed punt by the Stampede as well as a crucial offside penalty by the Stampede Defense, the Marauders took over 1st and 5 from their own 5-yard line.  On the next play Tyson Katoa ran it in for the score (kick failed), tying the score 6 – 6.  This would be the only score on the day for the Mauraders as they were without their starting QB and RB.  Andy Prince (0 for 5, 0 TD’s, 2 Int’s) and Jed Davies (1 for 3, 0 Td’s, 1 Int) both filled in as last minute QB’s throwing for a total of 12 yards, 0 TD’s, 3 interceptions, and sacked twice for 15 yards.  The Stampede would get on the board with 0:46 seconds left in the 2nd as Brandon Carlisle would score his 2nd of 3 TD’s on the day  when he ran it in from 13 yards out (run failed) giving the Stampede a 12 – 6 halftime lead.

In the 3rd, both teams couldn’t get anything going offensively  as Morgan’s defense stepped up big behind the play of Paul Hill (10 tackles), Ronny Wiggill (8 tackles), Chad Mikesell (5 tackles, 1 sack), and Richard Prince (5 tackles).  The Maruaders would hold the Stampede scoreless in the 3rd.

The 4th quarter would see the Stampede’s Brandon Carlisle top off his career day with 38 carries for 243 yards and 3 TD’s, as he would score his 3rd TD of the day with 10:39 on the clock.  Carlisle would also pass for 47 yards on two completions out of nine attempts.   This game wasn’t as close as the score indicated as the Stampede racked up 308 yards offense with no turnovers, while the Stampede Defense held Morgan to only 12 yards of total offense while causing 5 turnovers.

Morgan will next take on the Uintah Basin Oilers whom they are tied with in the division, both of these teams are pretty much out of playoff contention, but could turn things around if they can win their final 4 games.   The Stampede next travel to the Glacier Knights for a very tough road game and a must win if they want to be in the driver’s seat for the playoffs.  This is a critical game for both teams.
