RMFL – Joe
Sisson, driver for the United States bobsledding team, recently attended the
Rhino-Raiders vs. Cache Valley Bears game in Logan, Utah.
Sisson saw not only
one of the greatest football games in RMFL history; he also saw an incredibly
vast pool of potential Olympians.
That’s right, in
the sport of Olympic Bobsledding.
Tucked away in the
vast and majestic Wasatch Mountain range in northern Utah is one of the biggest
training ground for a number of winter Olympic sports… bobsledding, however, my
play most directly into the skills and natural ability of many RMFL football
players.
According to
Sisson, he saw “a
lot of quality athletes out there that could, with practice and training, make
an impact on the international stage in the sport of bobsled.”
He saw more than
enough and contacted RMFL Commissioner, Jared Neumeier.
“Mr. Sisson is the
driver,” Neumeier explained, “which, from what I understand is like the
‘quarterback’ of the bobsledding team.
This is the position that requires the most experience, training and a
certain skill set. The rest of the team,
however, is composed of just great, powerful athletes…. Obviously, for those
who have watched it, speed is of the essence… and in the good ‘ol RMFL, we’ve
got plenty of that (speed).”
Sisson is calling
any athlete in the Rocky Mountain Football League who might be interested in
learning the sport and applying their natural athleticism to a sport that is
very ingrained in the Rocky Mountain area to contact him. His goal is to set up an RMFL-exclusive
training sometime in July. According to Sisson, “I spoke with the director of the USBA, and he
said that they are going to be doing 4-item tests and push training/testing
every Saturday in June and July. He also stated that he would be
more then willing to schedule a couple of RMFL exclusive tryouts and push sessions as well. These tryouts would be
free.”
There is, after
all, a bit of a precedence with semi-pro ballers
being successful in bobsledding. Billy Shuffenhauer,
a former Rhino-Raider All-UFL OLB, was a member of the 4 man Olympic Bobsled team that
won silver in the 2002 Salt Lake City Games.
What another great
way to stay in shape in the off-season AND perhaps, participate as an Olympian
in the next Winter Olympics!
Do you think you
might have what it takes! Could you help
elevate the U.S. Olympic team into Gold Medal Contention?
Then contact Joe
Sisson as soon as possible to get set up for a future RMFL try-out.

“Obviously, this is a little easier of an opportunity for our Northern Utah players,” Commissioner Neumeier said, “however, I hope it doesn’t deter others that might be nearby to give it a shot… and perhaps become part of United States Olympic History.”
