Game Summary/Box Score
May 5, 2007 Helena Titans vs. Glacier Knights @ Columbia Falls High School

HELENA TITANS 20 GLACIER 3

COLUMBIA FALLS – Skyler Johnson debuted with 105 receiving yards and a score, and Derek Burch rushed for 133 yards on 19 carries as the once-Montana dominant, Helena Titans, took a big step forward towards a possible play-off appearance with a big road victory over the winless, but difficult, Glacier Knights, 20-3.

The Knights scored first, and had their first lead of the season when Kyle Burgess connected on a 37-yard field goal earlier in the second quarter.  The Knights would hold that lead until Johnson burned them. when with only 37 second remaining in the half, caught a touchdown pass in tight Glacier coverage to steal the lead from the Knights heading into the half.

The Knights, however, stayed in the game throughout, clinging close at 6-3 until Justin Masiak scored on a short run just past the mid-point of the 3rd quarter.  A final Knight attempt to score, to close the gap from 14-3 to perhaps 14-11, was dashed when Titan all-around athlete, Freddie Brown, picked off a Ryan Bennett pass and raced 76 yards for a Titan score to seal the victory.

Titan quarterback, Jacob Pena, had his best game behind center for Helena, passing for 205 yards and a touchdown and seemed to start getting comfortable with the Helena offense. Of course, Burch’s 133 yards helped considerably, becoming the first Titan back in 2007 to eclipse the 100 yards  rushing milestone in a game.

To take nothing away from a oft criticized Helena defense that “came to play”, holding the Knights to a grand total of 50 net yards during the game.  Coming into the game, the Titans were dead last in defense, averaging 360 total net yards given up per game… and really needing a big effort to get their confidence back heading into the second half of the season.

Spencer Steiner and Tiff Meyers lead the Titans defense, this time in a smothering effort.  Steiner recorded 9 tackles, including 1-1/2 sacks and Meyers, the teams leader coming in, recorded another 8 tackles himself.

For the Knights, in what should be considered a decent defensive game, giving up only 14 offensive points, Jason Zielanski, was, once again, everywhere, getting 11 tackles, while still playing some offense and returning kicks for the Knights.
