Game Summary/Box Score
May 5, 2007 Great Falls Gladiators vs. Bitterroot Blaze @ Darby High School

BITTERROOT 35 GREAT FALLS 0

DARBY – And the amazing story of the dominant 2007 Bitterroot Blaze continues… this time, wrapping up a back-to-back win against the Great Falls Gladiators 35-0, behind 232 yards rushing and 3 touchdowns by reigning RMFL Offensive MVP, Justin Nixon, at home, in Darby, Montana.

The Gladiator were the only fellow Montana team the Blaze could not beat in 2006, losing twice 3-2 and 19-14. In 2007 they have beaten their nemesis on consecutive Saturdays by a combined score of 90-0.

And, oh by the way, heading into their first of two bye weeks on the season, the Blaze have yet to be scored upon in 5 games, however, the best “other” offense in Montana, the Missoula Phoenix looms twice on their schedule going in.

The Blaze relied, once again, on the usual formula… great defense… and a lot of Justin Nixon.

Defensively, the Blaze stifled the Gladiators to a paltry total of 38 total net offensive yards, including recording 6 quarterback sacks for 33 yards lost. The Gladiator rushing game fared no better, rushing for only 28 yards on 13 carries as the Gladiators were only able to muster 2 first downs the entire evening, a cold, windy evening, favoring the smash mouth Bitterroot offensive approach.

The primary success for the Gladiators was their pass defense.  Great Falls held the Blaze to only 46 net yards of passing. They intercepted Blaze quarterback, Buckie Brawley 3 times and sacked him 3 more times to boot. But, it was not enough for to stop the unstoppable Blaze as Nixon ran wild and the Blaze defense became clearly the “immovable object”.

Defensive lineman, Brian Buckreus, even got in on the fun just past the midway point of the second quarter.  With the Gladiators backed up under the shadow of their own goal posts, pressure on Gladiator quarterback, Brad Thurber, forced an off-balance pass that Buckreus, normally a big-time Blaze sack expert, stepped in front of and sacheted in for 6 defensive points from 7 yards out. Buckreus, along with head coach and fellow d-lineman, Joe Murawa, would both finish the game with 2 sacks a piece to top the Blaze defense.

For the Gladiators, Mike Pease, had another solid effort of note. Pease got in on 8-1/2 sacks, however, far too few were made close enough to the line of scrimmage to keep Nixon and backfield mate Tyler Jolley (6 carries, 40 yards) from keeping the Blaze moving towards victory.
