RHINO-RAIDERS 39  BOISE 6

PLEASANT VIEW – After a tense first quarter which saw the visiting Boise Speed attempting a game-tying extra point, the defending RMFL champion, Rhino-Raiders pulled away in the second half for a 39-6 victory to continue their unceasing march into semi-pro football history.

The Rhino-Raiders scored just about every different way in the rule book, including the rare conversion return. After the Speed scored late in the first quarter on a Brian Stogsdill to Jeremy Prussia touchdown pass, the Speed set up for what looked to be a game-tying, Eric Harbison extra point.  A Rhino interior lineman, however, batted the ball away and Jay Tupe picked it up and raced 88 yards for 2 points the other way, changing what would have been a 7-7 tie into a 9-6 deficit.

The game stayed deadlocked for most of the second quarter until, after pinning the Speed deep and forcing a punt, the Rhinos blocked a Harbison kick back and out of the end zone for the safety and an 11-6 lead. After that, the Rhinos struck quickly after the free kick, culminating in the first of two Justin Oswald touchdown runs to take an 18-6 lead into the half.

Oswald would be the primary workhorse for the Rhino-Raiders, carrying 20 times for 171 yards to lead all.  Dave Stireman would pass for 232 yards and two touchdowns, both to Justin DeFour (5 receptions, 87 yards) as the Rhinos slowly pulled away in the second half.

Jay Tupe’s brother, Levine Tupe, helped seal the deal early in the second half when he scooped up a Speed fumble and raced in from 30-yards out giving the Rhinos a 25-6 lead.  A second Defour and Oswald touchdown rounded out the scoring in the 4th quarter as the Rhinos put away the visiting Speed at Weber High School.

Jake Phippen lead the #1 ranked Rhino-Raider defense with 6 tackles, including 2 of the teams 4 sacks in shutting the Speed down for the final 3 quarters of the game to earn their 84th straight league victory.

Dane Knickrehm lead the Boise defense with 6-1/2 tackles and often matching up and containing RMFL defending receiving champion, Damon Greenberry; holding him to only one reception for 10 yards on the afternoon.
