MAGIC VALLEY 40 SNAKE RIVER 22

NEW PLYMOUTH – The Magic Valley Bulldawgs busted out with 14 third quarter points and 20 unanswered points in the second half to turn a tight 14-14 tie into a comfortable 40-22 road victory over host Snake River at New Plymouth High School.

2001 RMFL MVP, Lonnie Edwards made a statement, returning to the Bulldawgs, with 84 rushing yards on 13 carries, a touchdown and a two-point conversion to help lead the Bulldawgs offense.

It was, however, the Bulldawgs defense that made the early statement, when Henry Lozado intercepted a Curtis Chatterton pass and raced in from 41-yards out early in the second quarter to break a 0-0 tie that persisted through the entire first quarter as each team exchanged possessions to no avail.  After a Kyle Gambrel touchdown run and a Tyrel Hoagland two-point conversion, the Snake River offense heated up.

Tyler Collingwood, who passed for 171 yards and 3 touchdowns, hit Cody Bates with 2:26 left in the 1st half to pull the Sabercats to within 14-8.  After a quick Bulldawg fumble, the Sabercats were in scoring territory quickly again and converted with a short touchdown pass from Collingwood to Shawn King to knot the game up at 14-14 at the half.

Magic Valley quarterback, Ben Landrian, who passed for 110 yards, all of them to Josh Villaro, found Villaro for most of those yards on the Bulldawgs first possession early in the second half.  Landrian hit Villaro on a 73-yard pass play, giving the Bulldawgs the 20-14 lead. Midway through the quarter, the Bulldawgs would score again, as Tyrel Hoagland would dart in from 3 yards out increasing the Bulldawgs lead to 28-14. Early in the 4th, Edwards would score as Magic Valley took advantage of a porous Sabercat run defense to take a commanding 34-14 lead.

Bulldawg rushers would combine for 278 yards on 45 runs to control a lot of the clock, especially in the key second half as they iced the game away.

Tierre Johnson recorded 6 tackles and Henry Lozada had two interceptions, including the one returned for six points to lead the Bulldawg defense which held a great Snake River offense to 223 total net yards on the day.

Brett Smith and Jeff Bowen lead the Sabercat defense with 7 and 6 tackles respectively.
