Game Summary/Box Score
April 21, 2007 Salt Lake Seminoles at Pocatello Predators

POCATELLO 17 SALT LAKE 8

POCATELLO – After opening up to a tough loss to the defending champion, Rhino-Raiders, the Pocatello Predators overcame a 6-0 halftime deficit to outscore the Salt Lake Seminoles 17-2 the rest of the way, and secure a hard-earned 17-8 victory over the visitors in a defensive struggle throughout.

Pocatello barely edged out the Seminoles in the total net yards battle in the contest 243-241 in a game that was always that close. It was not until Jeff May found Brandon Peebler for a 15-yard touchdown toss with just under 3 minutes to play did the Predators turn a tense 10-8 lead into a more comfortable 9 point, two-score margin.

The Seminoles struck first on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Nate Cone to tight end, Brad Larsen, a score that looked like might hold up for a while.

Predators quarterback, Jason Peterson, capped a long third quarter drive with a 2-yard keeper to give Pocatello its first lead at 7-6.  Jeff Waetje added a field goal later in the 3rd as the Predator pulled ahead 10-6.

But defense took its toll and after the Seminoles had the Predators pinned early in the 4th quarter, a bad snap in the end zone was batted out by Peterson and the Seminoles earned a safety, closing the gap to 10-8.

The Predators got huge two-way support from reigning North Division defensive MVP, Troy Sutton.  Sutton not only lead the defense with 7 tackles, but also helped out with several gigantic runs on offense in the second half, specifically a big run setting up the final scoring play to Peebler. Jeff May also came up big in a multi-task role, rushing for 32 yards on only 4 carries, catching two passes and helping out on defense with 5 tackles. The Pocatello defense was the difference in the end, however, with 4 interceptions of two different Seminoles quarterbacks, 2 of the picks by all-star, Kelly Nebeker.

The Seminoles were not without their stars.  Nate Cone lead all passers with 142 yards passing and all Salt Rushers with 63 yards on 10 carries. Defensively, Ty Mapu (5-1/2 tackles) and Will Sosi (5 tackles) lead the charge. Rocky Jann, playing his first game as a Seminole, recorded 4 tackles, a sack and an interception as well. However, the Seminoles were marked by great team defense in holding down the home team, but in the end, just wasn’t enough to earn a tough road victory.
