BOISE LOTTERY WINNER SPONSORS ROUGHRIDERS;
TEAM CHANGES NAME TO “SPEED” AS PART OF GYM PROMOTION
BOISE – In the year 2000, the Boise
Roughriders were created, however, they were then known as the Boise Cardinals.
The
Cardinals were created by an owner that first was duped into no-showing a road
game with the Wasatch Wildcats, being convinced that the Wildcats didn’t really
have a team. Of course, as history
suggests, the Wildcats did have a team and it turned out to be the championship
team of 2000.
Eventually,
he abandoned the Cardinals and as the RMFL was about to expel the franchise,
the RMFL Managing Board Chairman, Jared Neumeier, contacted then teams
defensive coordinator, Chuck Hudson.
Hudson and the players were not aware of the many deficiencies and
deception of their then owner, however, were fully willing to step in and make
sure the team played and finished the season.
Hudson,
and his General Manager, Doug O’Brian, saved the Boise franchise and turned it
into one of the model franchises in the RMFL, consistently competing for the
playoffs every season. Hudson and
O’Brian changed the team name to Roughriders in 2001 in an effort to create a
new attitude and a new future for the team… and it worked.
Hudson
and O’Brian decided to step away from the game after 6 successful seasons at
the helm, and long-time offensive line star for the team, Todd Rietmann took over the team before the 2006 season.
After
another solid season in 2006, the Roughriders have had an eventful off-season,
culminating in a sponsorship deal with mega-lottery winner, and owner of the
“Duke Speed Acadamy”, Brad Duke.
Speed’s
primary request is for the team to take the “Speed” name as a partnership
between the RMFL franchise and his Gym business. It is expected that the partnership will
flourish over the years as they work together in common interest.
With
this sponsorship and some other organizational changes, the team feels they are
poised for a breakthrough season. According to the Speed web site, the team is
hopeful to “Bring home a title” to the Boise community.
Star
linebacker, Zac Jockumsen,
has taken over the Speed web site and is now viewable through the RMFL home
page.
