AFL Teams With MSL Sports To Present First Combine
For Prospective Players
NEW YORK – The Arena
Football League and MSL Sports have partnered to present the inaugural AFL
National Combine at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday, June 10 as part of ArenaBowl XX Weekend. ArenaBowl XX
will be played at Thomas & Mack Arena on Sunday, June 11 at 3 p.m. ET on
NBC.
“AFL players are
world-class athletes,” said Commissioner DAVID BAKER. “The level of play
in our league is getting better every year. This first-ever Combine will allow
our teams to efficiently respond to the growing interest from prospective
players nationwide.”
The AFL National
Combine will present a platform for prospective AFL players on a national scale
for the first time. Although many AFL teams host both open and closed tryouts
throughout the year, there has never been a national tryout with player
personnel representation present from every team.
In addition to AFL
scouts and coaches, player personnel evaluators from several NFL teams —
including the Cowboys, Falcons, Saints and Titans — are scheduled to attend.
“We provide a resource for
coaches looking to recruit the best talent,” said MSL Founder and former
Syracuse offensive lineman Shawn
Garrity. “MSL offers them access to a large number of athletes’
measurables such as height, weight and speed. However, what distinguishes MSL from other such
event organizers is their Video on Demand technology. Each athlete that
participates in the AFL Combine will receive a Web site -- with video and
details of their performance -- which they can use to promote themselves to
coaches throughout the country."
Hundreds of athletes
with varying levels of experience -- but all sharing the dream of playing pro
football -- will participate in the hopes of catching the eye of scouts and
coaches. Participants will be tested in standard speed and movement drills,
including the 40-yard dash, and various position-specific drills. Player
results will be entered into a video database available to all AFL teams.
Players interested in attending should visit www.arenafootball.com or www.mslcombines.com and click on the
Inaugural AFL National Combine icon.
