Previously, when the meeting was held after the game, the game was played in the middle of the day, in the middle of the summer. This made the game more difficult and hot for the players. A later start proves to be far more pleasant for the players, especially later in the game when fatigue usually becomes more of a factor. Also, after a long day at a hot game, GM's and team representatives were far more inclined to skip the meeting and just "get home". The pre-meeting and league fine for missing the meeting helps solve this as well.
With speculation abounding regarding changes (additions and subtractions) to the 2006 RMFL field, the meeting presents a strong forum for updating all of the teams on where the league stands heading into the next year. The "lessons learned" segment is also a positive way for the league to document pitfalls from 2005 that can be applied and avoided in future years as well as highlighting policies that worked and should be enhanced in future years. The budgeting and planning portion of the meeting gives each team some off-season direction and target dates and teams have the opportunity to appraise the performance of the league's commissioner, without the commissioner present.
For the first time ever, the RMFL Managing Board will vote on its overall league MVP’s (offensive, defensive and top overall player in the league). RMFL players already participated in the voting for divisional MVP’s. From that field of players, the Managing Board will discuss and vote for the overall league MVP’s. All MVP’s will be announced and awarded at a special halftime presentation at the all-star game.
Also, the RMFL, the league's Managing Board will discuss and approve the final ALL-RMFL team selections. RMFL Commissioner, Jared Neumeier, has prepared and sent to all Managing Board members a “Draft” selection list based upon coaches rankings, team performances and statistics for an initial draft. The Managing Board will take that draft and propose changes to it to be more reflective of the general Managing Board evaluation of its star players. The names of the league's first team ALL-RMFL players gets forwarded nationally for national considerations.
