LOCATION – The reigning RMFL’s “Fastest
Man”, the Idaho Falls Mustangs multi-talented threat, Brandon Reed caught 6
passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns on offense and intercepted two Utah
Wolverine passes on defense to help the Idaho Falls Mustangs to a difficult
29-22 home victory over the Wolverines in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
The Mustangs also got a big
offensive effort out of their running backs, league-leader Travis Boden, and
another multi-position threat, Scott Brown.
While Boden carried for a modest 77 yards by his standards, Brown rushed
for 94 (and caught passes for another 31) as the Mustang rushing attack
accounted for 190 yards in all to help control the game.
Penalties, however, took
their toll on both teams, with the home Mustangs getting flagged for 136 yards
and the Wolverines getting flagged for 130 yards, many of the penalties on both
teams nullified either big plays, first downs or even touchdowns that could
have made a difference in the game.
Perhaps the most glaring difference, however, was in turnovers. While Wolverine quarterback, Steve Waelty completed 15 passes for 223 yards, his 5 interceptions contributed to big problems with the Wolverines getting the victory. The Wolverines also lost 2 fumbles for a total of 7 turnovers to the Mustangs’ 1 turnover. Not a very favorable ratio for a visiting team to pull off the upset on the road.
