OREM – Dave Stireman threw 4 touchdown passes
to 4 different receivers as the re-tooled defending RMFL Champion, Ogden
Rhino-Raiders opened up their 2006 title defense with an overwhelming 51-6
victory over long-time local rival, the Salt Lake Nemesis at the Nemesis home
field in Orem, Utah.
The Rhino-Raiders offense
was hitting on all cylinders against the highly touted Nemesis offense with 489
yards of total net offense, including 312 passing yards by Stireman, including
89 on 5 receptions and one of the touchdowns to new team addition, Ben Jones.
The Rhino-Raiders also welcomed back Damon Greenberry,
who would catch 4 Stireman offerings for 50 yards and another score.
The highly anticipated play
of new tailback, Selu Alifipino,
was no disappointment. Alifipino went for 66 yards on
15 carries and two second half touchdown runs.
The Rhino-Raiders ended up rushing 29 times and passing 31 for another
balanced and potent offensive attack.
The Nemesis picked up their
only score, when the Nemesis head coach, Harold Regin,
intercepted the Rhino-Raiders head coach, Dave Stireman and returned 35-yards
for the teams only score. Regan returned
6 interceptions for touchdowns in the 2005 season on his way to RMFL overall
Defensive MVP. It had been 9 years since
one RMFL teams head coach intercepted another’s. The last time was 1997 when
the Rocky Mountain Bulls’ Matt Culbertson intercepted the Idaho Falls
Mustangs’, Jared Neumeier. Culbertson did not return for a touchdown, however.
The Rhino-Raiders unloaded their bench as 21 players contributed to a tackle en route to a team victory. The Rhino defense held the Nemesis to only 84 total net yards of offense.
