Game Summary/Box Score
May 6, 2006 Pocatello Predators at Madison Lionz @ Madison High School

MADISON 49 POCATELLO 44

REXBURG – In 2005, the Pocatello Predators and the Madison Lionz played in a game that saw a combined 96 points scored as the Lionz raced out for a 54-42 victory; their first contest in 2006 almost matched it. The Madison Lionz offense continues to roll in 2006 as Troy Dougherty passed for 234 yards and Nate Rydalch rushed for a personal best 150 more yards to lead the Lionz to another shootout victory over the Pocatello Predators by a 49-44 margin in Rexburg, Idaho.

The Lionz steamed out to leads of 21-0 and 49-30 only to see the Predators come back strong each time.

Madison offensive attack was balanced with 225 net passing yards and 251 net rushing yards in a very rare game that saw the Lionz gain more on the ground than in the air.  To go with his 234 passing yards, Troy Dougherty also threw three touchdown passes and ran 5 times for 33 yards, including two other scores in to account for 5 touchdowns on the evening.

The Predators also got some big time performances from some big time players. Quarterback, Jeff Belnap riddled the Lionz secondary for 301 passing yards and 5 touchdowns.  Belnap was also good on a 52-yard field goal.  The second-longest field goal in RMFL history.  Of Belnap’s 301 passing yards, ex-Magic Valley Bulldawg, Kelly Nebeker caught 7 of the passes for 142 yards and two of the scores, including a 66-yard touchdown as the Predators were pulling to within 36-30 as the third quarter came to a close.  3-time RMFL Offensive MVP, Brock Gunter also caught 6 passes for 94 yards and a score. In the 2005 tilt, Gunter tied an RMFL single-game record with 13 receptions.

The Predators also benefited from another gamey performance from the division’s reigning Defensive MVP, Troy Sutton, who turned in another of many great 2-way efforts.  Sutton rushed for 51 yards and a touchdown, caught 2 passes for 29 yards and on defense, recorded 8-1/2 tackles in a losing cause.
