2005 ALL-STARS ANNOUNCED!!!!!!!!
IT WILL BE NORTH VS. SOUTH ON JULY 30TH IN
IDAHO FALLS!!!
RMFL – The 8th annual RMFL All-Star Classic
will kick-off on Saturday, July 30th at 6:00 p.m… and there will be
plenty of first timers participating in on the fun. For the first time ever, the all-star rosters have increased to
40 players, which, according to RMFL League Commissioner, Jared Neumeier, still
“wasn’t enough”.
“I was real excited to go from 32 to 35 players and
then from 35 to 40, but honestly, even at 40 players per squad there are some
real legitimate all-star players that are not only not on the first team, but
didn’t even make the alternate list,” Neumeier added.
The 2005 All-Stars were selected similar to previous
seasons whereby the GM’s and or coaching staffs of each team submit to the
league a ranked list of their players from which the RMFL fills the squads
based on team performance using the teams ranked lists. In 2005, by a vote of the Managing Board in
February, team performance was to be based on team statistical performance as
both an offensive and defensive unit.
“What is unfortunate for a few teams, and I won’t
mention which ones,” Neumeier explained, “despite constant reminders and pleas,
they did not submit a list of all stars to the league. In those cases, we used
the ‘best information available’ to try to do it for them. What we come up with
will never be as good as from a team source. We also cannot help it if someone
doesn’t want to be listed. Dave Stireman,
who would likely start at quarterback for the South team, didn’t want to be
listed. Fortunately, at least he will be coaching the offense.”
If a team’s offensive unit placed first, they would
get 4 offensive players, second and they got 3 players, gradually scaling down until
the last place team would get no players.
Defensively, the scale worked the same way except that the last place
defensive team would get at least one player, making sure every team had at
least one representative.
“Part of the philosophy of how we create our all-star
team,” Neumeier explained is not so much to ensure that our top 80 players make
it, but to make sure our top 40 or 60 do AND that we have a good ‘mixing’ of
the teams. This event is about playing
the game with, rather than against the guys you have been against all
year. It has always been a great place
to shape friendships and get to know the guys from the other teams.”
The maximum number of players any team could place on
an all-star team would have been 8 (top ranked defense, top ranked offense in
group), however, no team in their all-star group had the top overall defense
and top overall offense, so the most any team placed on the first year this
year was 7 (Rhino-Raiders, Wasatch). Several teams placed 6 players (Madison,
Helena and Boise). “These top teams
received priority as well in how their players were put on,” Neumeier added,
“these teams pretty much got their top ranked players on the team according to
their own rankings, whereas some of the other teams had might have seen higher
ranked players skipped over because his position was filled already. If a player from the Rhino-Raiders, Wasatch,
Madison, Helena or Boise was left off, it was a combination of how their
GM/coach ranked them and the fact that there is a limit to how many from each
team can make it. Before anyone
complains, ask themselves, ‘who from my team should be dropped for me to make
it… then make that case to your GM. It
is a bit late, now, but it is important to understand how that works.”
All All-Stars will continue to be contingent upon his
team turning in MVP ballots to the league, post-marked by Firday, June 17th. If you have not filled out a ballot with
your team for the MVP voting, make sure it is getting done and make sure to
vote. Each team must return a minimum
of qualified ballots so their all-stars are actually qualified and their MVP
candidates can be considered.
Coaches for the All-Star games will be split crews,
keeping in the nature of the All-Star game as both players and coaches will get
to know and work with each other. For
the North team, Helena has been asked to coach the offense, Madison the defense
and Boise the Special Teams. For the
South squad, the Rhino-Raiders have been asked to coach the offense, the
Wildcats have been asked to coach the defense and the Wolverines to coach the
Special teams.
This All-Star team list is presented below with
alternates for each position listed in order of how they will be asked in the
event that a first team player cannot be confirmed. GM’s and coaches will have until next Friday (June 24th) to
confirm first team players. Any
unconfirmed players will be dropped from the active team and alternates will be
contacted. As soon as the RMFL knows
that a first team player will not be able to play in the game, the alternate
will be notified (in other words, the league may not wait until after next
Wednesday to start contacting certain alternates).
First team players can also request a different number
than the one listed for them.
NOTE: NAMES LISTED IN RANDOM ORDER. NOT NECESSARILY STARTING ORDER.
