Vipers at Rhino-Raiders, May 7,
2005
In 2005, for most of the 4th
quarter, the Vipers were within a 10-7 deficit of making history.
Rhino-Raiders quarterback, Dave Stireman,
however, found his favorite target, Norvel Young in
the end zone with just under 4 minutes remaining in
the game as the RMFL champion, Rhino-Raiders escaped with a nail-biting 16-7
victory over the Vipers on a soggy evening in May.
Josh Christensen scored on a 3-yard run early
in the 4th to cut a 10-0 deficit to 10-7. Christensen, however, was
primarily used as a lead blocker for budding Viper star, Kyle Curtis, who once
again broke the 100-yard rushing mark against the #1 ranked defense
in the league.
To counter-punch, however, the Rhinos had
stellar performances from a tandem of backs of their own. Terance Marks
rushed for a season-high 116 yards on 9 carries and the time-less, Rob Morse
rushed for 92 yards on 16 carries as the prolific Rhino passing offense turned
to the ground in the wet and occasional monsoon conditions.
Levine Tupe lead
the Rhino defense with 6 tackles including a sack on Viper quarterback , Terry
Smothers as the Viper offense struggled to only 26 passing yards against 26
yards lost in 2 sacks (1 by Manu Taeoalii for 20
yards) for a 0 net passing yards on the day.
The Viper defense was nothing short of stellar holding down the vaunted Rhino-Raider offense most of the game. Mike Christensen lead the team in tackles with 8 and Nash Montoya and had 7 a piece in holding the Rhinos in check, but coming up short in the end.
