“This is not a cancellation in any way,”
Commissioner, Jared Neumeier stated, “both of these teams are ready, willing
and able to play, however, with all of the heavy rains throughout the week, officials
from Box Elder High school have had differing opinions as to allow the game to
proceed or not for the Devil Dogs. The
Devil Dogs and Scorpions both talked to their players and no one wanted to see
field problems for future seasons arise for the Devil Dogs if they proceeded
with the game on Saturday against the wishes of the school’s athletic director
and head coach. With both of these teams on the verge of playoff elimination,
it didn’t make enough sense to them.”
The RMFL will officially reschedule the game,
but will wait for the outcome of the next two weeks to officially do so. If both the Devil Dogs and Scorpions have 5
losses as of May 21st games, the game will be rescheduled for June
18th. This is the first week
of the RMFL playoffs, however, the league office did
not feel that it was mathematically probable that any team with 5 losses will
make the playoffs.
If one of the teams gets on a roll, then
other options will be considered, up to and including Friday night, June 10th
or Memorial day weekend Saturday.
“If the game ends up having playoff significance, obviously we have to schedule it so that ‘all of the dust settles by June 11th,” Neumeier clarified, “if it doesn’t have playoff significance, it will still be played, only it will take place on June 18th. This isn’t all about making the playoffs. These guys are all in this to play football… and play football they shall.”
