Missoula Raptors at Glacier Knights, May 14, 2005

COLUMBIA FALLSThe Missoula Raptors scored an offensive, defensive and a special teams touchdown in the first half to build a 24-0 halftime lead over the solid Glacier Knights football team and then cruised in for a hard-fought 38-0 victory in Columbia Falls, Montana.

After needing ½ of the first quarter to get their first points, a Rapheal Roberts field goal, the Raptors then got an interception return for touchdown by Brian Hughes and a 52-yard punt return score from Nate Stephens to jump out to a 17-0 lead as the first quarter closed. Only with 11:32 remaining in the 2nd quarter would the Raptors get their first offensive touchdown, a 32-yard pass from Jim Compton to Hillary Benbeneck to give the Raptors what would be their halftime lead as the Knight defense proved to be formidable.

The winless Knights held the division-leading Raptors to 239 total net yards in the game, a solid performance on any scale.

In the end, however, the Raptors were too much offense and defense.  Justin Nixon had another big game rushing 10 times for 130 yards, including a 46-yard touchdown run in the 4th quarter to seal the victory and a two-point conversion.  The Raptors offense, however, proved their depth as 9 different running backs carried the ball as the Raptors rushed as a team for 187 yards on the Knight defense.

The Raptor defense shut out Glacier for the second time this season, after shutting them out in the season opener 46-0, had solid play from a number of defensive stars.  Jamie Jones and Tad Sheridan lead all tacklers.  Sheridan even was in for 2-1/2 sacks and Mike Hardenburgh had two interceptions on the day.

The Knight defense which made such a fine accounting for themselves was lead, once again by RMFL tackles leader, Jason Zielanski. Zielanski, the multi-purpose all-star for the Knights, recorded 8-1/2 tackles and a sack for the Knight defense, but also lead the team in rushing with 53 yards on 15 carries, caught a 15-yard pass and returned kick-offs, punts and and even made run to the local convenience store for ice at halftime. Andrew Wilson also had a good rushing game for the Knights with 50 yards on 11 carries and defensively, Red Dutton, Scott Ruda, Beau Herman, Kevin Brown and Matt Kinsella all contributed strong performances.
