Pocatello Predators at Wasatch Wildcats, May 14, 2005

OREM – The Wasatch Wildcats scored 58 unanswered points beginning with the second Marcus Whalen touchdown run (of 3 for the game) early in the 4th quarter to pull away and demolish the visiting Pocatello Predators 65-6 Saturday night in Orem.

Whalen, a former BYU starting tailback, rushed 14 times for 158 yards on the game and the 3 scores as the Wildcats scored 7 rushing touchdowns on the game against a quickly tiring Pocatello defense.  In all, the Wildcats rushed for 286 yards on 38 carries as they continue to establish themselves as one of, if not the best rushing team in the RMFL (Utah Blitz currently leads the league, with the Wildcats a #2).

Tony Saunders went for 107 yards on 3 receptions and a touchdown to pace the Wildcat receiving corps. In all, the balanced Wildcat attack amassed 533 total net yards on the game in a complete overmatch of what had been an improving Pocatello Predator football team.

The Predators hung in gamely for just over a quarter. After the Wildcats scored first on a big 39-yard Whalen touchdown run midway through the first quarter, Predator quarterback, Jeff Belnap found Travis Goodwin up the right sideline for a 71-yard touchdown pass pulling the Predators to within 7-6 early in the second quarter.

Which is when the Wildcat offense got rolling.

The Wildcats defense once again “spread the wealth” as no individual player recorded more than 3 tackles (Chris Carter, Jasen Ah You) in a total team stoppage of a highly potent Predator attack.

The Predators defense, such as it was, was lead by a game effort by the RMFL’s all-time career leader in tackles and original MVP, Matt Culbertson who recorded 8-1/2 tackles on the evening.
