HELENA 65  GREAT FALLS 0

Great Falls Gladiators at Helena Titans, May 14, 2005

HELENAJustin Clement rushed for 3 touchdowns and accounted for 236 yards (130 rushing, 106 returns) and Jeremy Ewan scored 3 touchdowns (2 rushing, 1 receiving) and compiled 141 yards from scrimmage (83 rushing, 58 receiving) as the Helena Titans dominated state rival, Great Falls 65-0 as they continue their march for a final game showdown for the Montana division title.

Shane Jurasek also passed for 288 yards and two touchdowns as the Helena Titan offense rolled up 519 yards on the game to the Gladiators measly 114.

In 2004, the Titans were only able to defeat the Gladiators 17-7 and the Gladiators were actually able to gain more yards on the game, 325 to 302.  Clearly the times have changed as the Titans dominated almost from the opening kickoff.

The Gladiators did start well, picking up an early fumble on the opening drive of the game by Helena deep in Titan territory.  However, they were unable to get a first down and missed a 38-yard field goal attempt by Kyle Beatty.  That was the closest the Gladiators would get to the Titan end zone in the game.

The Titans, often maligned defense came up big this game, lead by the efforts of Tom Clement, Frank Cannon, Justin Lamb and Steve Rice.  Clement accounted for 8 tackles, including 1-1/2 sacks to lead the team. Cannon was in for 2-1/2 sacks, Lamb 2 and Rice got in for another sack as the Titans recorded 8 sacks of Gladiator quarterbacks on the day.  Meanwhile, the Titan offensive line came up big, not yielding a single sack to their star quarterback, Jurasek.

The Gladiators did have some fine efforts from several players even though the score may not bear it out.  Mike Pease recorded 8 tackles and even ran for a 13-yard gain on a backfield carry.  Mike Rhode, Reid Merriweather and Keon Pinckney all recorded 4-1/2 tackles as the Gladiator defense just could not solve the Titan offense, particularly Clement and Ewan.

On another game note, Titan place-kicker, Bryan Hilborn broke another RMFL record. With 3 field goals on the game, Hilborn set a new RMFL record for field goals made (and attempted) in a season. Hilborn’s 3 makes gives him 11 on the season, with 3 games remaining; eclipsing a mark set by Boise’s Eric Harbison in 2004. Hilborn had attempted a 4th in the game, a 48 yard attempt that was blocked by Sam Morgan of the Gladiators.
