Madison Lionz at Great Falls Gladiators, June 4, 2005

GREAT FALLS – The Madison Lionz continued their roll to an undefeated regular season with a 50-0 pasting of the Great Falls Gladiators in Great Falls, Montana.

Madison MVP candidates, Troy Dougherty and Nate Brown connected 4 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns including the opening score with 8 minutes remaining in the first quarter on a 65-yard pass play to give the Lionz the early 7-0 lead.  Dougherty went on the throw 210 yards and 3 touchdowns before leaving for back-up, Todd Barber.

Barber had a solid game as well, completing the “hat trick” of rushing for a touchdown, receiving a touchdown and throwing two touchdown passes in the 4th quarter to account for the 50-0 score.

With little positives, including negative 43 net yards of passing, the Gladiators did have a solid game rushing the football.  The Gladiators rushed 43 times for 135 yards to control the clock and attempt to keep the potent Madison attack off of the field.

The Lionz defense pitched their 3rd shutout of the season behind a great game by  Irvin Hill who recorded 10 tackles including 1-1/2 sacks.  Greg Givens, James Reice and Roy Withers all had 8 tackles.  Givens, Reice and Withers also participated in the Madison sack brigade which got to Gladiator quarterback, Joe Reza for 7 sacks on the game.

The Gladiators defense was lead by Dave Hodgkin (5-1/2 tackles), Mike Rhode (4-1/2 tackles, sack), Mike Pease (4 tackles) and Brad Thurber (3-1/2 tackles), but in the end, it was just too much Madison offense even for a solid Gladiator defense at home.
