Glacier Knights at Great Falls Gladiators, June 11, 2005

GREAT FALLS – Joe Reza broke touchdown runs of 40 and an RMFL record, 96-yards in the second half to turn a 13-13 halftime tie into a decisive 40-13 Gladiator victory over the Glacier Knights Saturday in Great Falls, Montana.

The game to avoid finishing in the Montana cellar started out as the true close match-up it was billed for.

The Gladiator rushed for a team total of 330 yards, rushed for all 6 scores. Keon Pinckney and Mike Pease rushed in for the first two scores that gave the Gladiators the 13-0 lead in the second quarter.

The Knights, however, would not go away.

Sheldon McCool threw two late second quarter touchdown passes, including an 11-yard touchdown to Shane Bear with 19 seconds to go in the half to pull the Knights even at the break.

The Gladiator rushing attack, however, proved to be too much for the Knights. Reid Merriweather scored the go-ahead touchdown before Reza rushed for the first of his two big scores. Reza ended up with 206 yards on only 7 carries. Reza also caught the only two pass completions for the Gladiators and added another 48 yards for 254 total net yards from scrimmage and the greatest offensive output of the weekend by any player.

For the Knights, Jason Zielanski made yet another case for MVP of the Montana division. Zielanski added 8 more tackles to win the 2005 RMFL tackles title as well as rushing for 25 yards, receiving for 24 yards and returning kicks for another 96 for 145 total individual yards for the all-purpose athlete from northern Montana.
