Salt Lake Nemesis at Vipers, April 30, 2005

MORGAN – The Salt Lake Nemesis opened up an early 16-0 lead and then weathered a furious scoring onslaught by the Vipers as both teams combined for 4 touchdowns in the last 3 minutes of the first half to hold on for a 43-27 regular season victory Saturday night.

As the Nemesis offense struggled in the game, the defense shined like no other. Particularly Harold Regan, who intercepted 3 Viper passes, returning them all for touchdowns to spark the Nemesis scoring.  Defensive teammate, John Fillmore, also returned and interception for a touchdown, which in fact was an RMFL record-setting, 101-yard interception return early in the 4th quarter that pushed a slimming 30-20 lead to 36-20.

As the defense shined for the Nemesis, accounting for 4 touchdowns and a safety when Nick Tengen caught Viper quarterback, Skyler Sherwood in the Viper end zone, the Nemesis offense struggled against a solid Viper defense.  Nemesis receiver, Cody Jamison did have a solid receptions day, catching 4 passes for 77 yards and ½ of the Nemesis’ offensive touchdowns.

The Viper offense had more success, particularly rushing.  Budding star, Viper tailback, Kyle Curtis had another solid day with 85 yards rushing on 15 carries including 2 touchdowns.  The Vipers also welcomed back Josh Christensen who rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown.  The Viper offense, however, could not recover from 5 interceptions thrown by Sherwood (6-14-3-84-0) and Terry Smothers (2-9-2-8-0).

Once again, Nemesis linebacker, Dan Cruser lead the team in tackles with 7. For the Viper defense, which held the Nemesis offense to under 200 total net yards of offense, Chris Norton (6 tackles, interception) and Troy Peterson (5 tackles) lead the team.
