Morgan Marauders at Colorado April 30,

Games cannot get any close than a tie and
after 4 quarters, the winner of the Colorado Scorpions and Morgan Marauders had
yet to be decided and the RMFL’s first overtime in 2005 had begun. Wiscombe, who not only was the star in the overtime
with the touchdown that the Scorpions could not match in their possession, was
the offensive star of the day for the Marauders, scoring all 3 Marauder
touchdowns.
Both teams relied almost exclusively on the
run, however, none more than the Marauders who set a single game mark with no
completed passes in the entire contest.
All of Morgan’s 258 positive yards came on the ground. Quarterback, Ben Wiscombe, was a remarkable 0
for 30 in passing. Ben Wiscombe, however, was very effective in the ground
game, chipping in a team-leading 85 yards to go along with his star brother,
Joe’s 81 yards rushing.
The Scorpions also had a big day on the
ground, rushing for 186 yards on 36 attempts, lead by Jeff Dotson who rushed
for 98 yards and the Scorpions first touchdown of the season and Scott Walston who rushed for 73 yards including a game-breaking
63-yard run early in the fourth quarter that put the Scorpions ahead 14-6 at
the time.
After the Walston
score, it was the Wiscombe brothers that saved the game for overtime as Joe
broke a 15-yard touchdown run and Ben took in the critical two-point conversion
that tied the score late in the 4th period.
Morgan’s defense was lead by Aaron Preece and Colby Ball who recorded 9 and 8 tackles respectively. The Scorpions defense was lead by Zen Callahan with 6 tackles and Nathan Grey with 5 tackles and a sack. It was J.T. Armendariz who not only recorded 5 tackles and an interception of Ben Wiscombe, but also 120 return yards for the Scorpions special teams.
