Glacier Knights at Madison Lionz, April 30, 2005

SUGAR CITY – The Madison Lionz exploded for 21 points over a 3-minute span early in the second quarter to pull away, and then run away from the Glacier Knights for a 70-0 RMFL regular season victory at home.

After jumping out to a quick 13-0 lead with most of the first quarter remaining, the Knights defense played tough… for a while.  But after Josh Huntsman intercepted the Knights and raced 20-yards for a touchdown to put the Lionz ahead 19-0 with 11:30 to go in the 2nd quarter, the Lionz really got going.

Two quick turnovers and two quick scores later, both runs, one by Shawn Robson and the other an 18-yard scrambling touchdown run by Lionz quarterback, Todd Barber (16-26-0-227-3), the Lionz were ahead comfortably 34-0 and the rout was on.

Madison receivers, Nate Brown and John Clark, both eclipsed 100 receiving yards after scoring the first two touchdowns for the Lionz. Brown, who is emerging as arguably the best tight end in the league, caught 7 passes for 113 yards and Clark caught 6 passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns.  Barber had a big day passing for 227 yards, 3 touchdowns, no interceptions and rushing for 71 yards.

The stifling Lionz defense, after holding the Wasatch Wildcats to 13 points last week, was lead by Dustin Simmons with 8-1/2 tackles and a sack and Irvin Hill who had 7-1/2 tackles and a sack. Knight all-star, Jason Zielanski (7 tackles) and Russ Taylor (6-1/2 tackles) lead the Glacier defense.
