BOISE 20  MAGIC VALLEY 12

Magic Valley Bulldawgs at Boise Roughriders, April 30, 2005

HORSESHOE BENDThe Boise Roughriders took advantage of 5 critical Magic Valley Bulldawg turnovers to hold the Bulldawgs potent offense down in the second half, allowing them to overcome a 12-10 halftime deficit to come back and win 20-12 in what has become a long-standing RMFL rivalry Saturday night in Horseshoe Bend, Idaho.

Statistically, the Bulldawgs had the better of it, with quarterback Mike Manning passing for 325 yards and two touchdowns, however, 3 interceptions and two critical fumbles, one recovered by the Roughriders’ Maurice Sapp who took it into the Bulldawg end zone for a big second quarter touchdown, was the key in the game.

The Rouhrider offense got a big boost by the return of long-time all-star receiver, Chance Leeds.  Leeds spent this game in the backfield, replacing the injured Aaron Blakely and rushed 16 times for 69 yards and caught an 18-yard pass to aid in the Roughrider cause.  All-star tight end, Shawn Mares caught 2 passes for 65 yards and place-kicker, Eric Harbison had a big day, hitting two 40+ yard field goals and two extra points which turned out to be the difference in the game.

The Bulldawg offense got a monster performance from all-star wide receiver, Cole Meiners again. Meiners caught 7 passes for 150 yards, including a big 70-yard touchdown pass later in the first quarter that put the Bulldawgs up for the first time 7-3.  Former RMFL MVP, Lonnie Edwards had a solid day as well, rushing for 59 yards and receiving for 25 yards.

Defensively, the Roughriders played a game without 2-time reigning RMFL Defensive MVP for the first time since 2002.  In his stead, the team picked up their game to shut down the explosive Bulldawg offense.  Dane Knickrehm recorded 4 tackles and two interceptions and Sapp recorded 5 tackles and added an interception to his big defensive play for the touchdown.

The Bulldawg defense was strong as well holding the Boise offense to only 230 total net yards, lead by Rick May and Kelly Nebeker with 6 tackles each and Brad Slater who recorded 5 tackles and a sack.-.
