
GREAT FALLS – The Helena Titans
defense shut down the Great Falls Gladiators behind a solid overall defense
that sacked Gladiator quarterbacks 7 times and rode a solid offensive
performance that put up 24 first half points before cruising to victory to
overwhelm the Great Falls Gladiators 37-0 in opening Rocky Mountain Football
League action.
Titans quarterback, Shane Jurasek, had an
outstanding day, completing 20 of 33 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns
and ran for a 3rd in leading the Titan offense. Dave Garza caught 5 passes for 77 yards and a
touchdown to lead all receivers. The
Titans welcomed, ex-Bozeman Kodiak, Jeremy Ewan to
the offense and Ewan responded with 33 rushing yards
and 21 receiving yards to pitch in on a great overall offensive effort. Titan
place-kicker, Bryan Hilborn also made a big opening statement, validating his
position as the league’s most dominant kicker, connecting on 3 field goals in
the game, including a 42-yarder with 13 seconds remaining in the first half.
The Titan defense held the Gladiators to 104 net total yards, including only
27 rushing yards. Justin Lamb recorded 3 of the Titan total 7 sacks and
ball-hawk, Frank Cannon recovered 3 Gladiator fumbles. Donny Kaneshiro had
5-1/2 tackles and ˝ a sack and Steve Rice recorded 3 tackles, including 2 sacks
were among many defensive leaders in the game.
The Gladiators did have some
success, particularly in stopping the Titan rushing game, holding the Titans to
54 yards rushing and forcing the 3 field goal attempts. Mike Pease was the biggest defensive
contributor for the Gladiators, recording 9-1/2 tackles and all 3 sacks of
Titan quarterback, Jurasek.
