Idaho Falls Mustangs at Salt Lake Nemesis, April 23, 2005

OREM – The Idaho Falls Mustangs weathered 150 penalty yards to edge the Salt Lake Nemesis in Orem, Utah 28-21 to remain unbeaten in regular season RMFL play.

Mustang star tailback, Travis Boden rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown and Donavan Ard threw 2 touchdown passes to pace the Mustangs offense which did not turn the ball over in the game. On the contrary, the Salt Lake Nemesis, who out-total yarded the Mustangs 261-241 were intercepted 3 times by the Mustangs.

The Mustangs scored a touchdown directly or indirectly immediately after each interception.

Although Nemesis quarterback, Mark Henderson was victimized by each of the 3 interceptions, he also tossed 3 touchdown passes in the game, 2 to wide receiver, Jarome Anderson to account for all of the Nemesis scores. The first touchdown toss was an exciting catch and run by Nemesis star tailback, Marvell Smith (27 rushing yards, 62 passing yards) to give the Nemesis a 7-6 lead midway through the first quarter.

For the Mustangs, wide receiver and defensive back, Brandon Reed was the big story. Reed returned Henderson’s first interception 35-yards to paydirt early in the game to put the Mustangs up 6-0.  He also caught 2 touchdown passes, the Mustangs second score to pull them ahead 14-7 and then the game clincher in the fourth quarter to give them a comfortable 28-13 lead.

The Mustangs played solid all-around team defense throughout, however, they were lead by tackle leaders Bryce Smith with 6 and Sean Powell and Scott Brown with 5 a piece. David Levicki lead all Nemesis tacklers with 5-1/2 tackles on Mustang runners.
