Kamas Valley Muddogs at Morgan Marauders, April 9, 2005

MORGAN – A scoreless, defensive slugfest in the first half, resulting in 0-0 halftime score erupted in the third quarter as the Morgan Marauders rolled out 3 touchdowns within 7 minutes of the third quarter to pull away from the Kamas Valley Muddogs on the opening game o the 2005 RMFL regular season for both teams.

Mitch Clark, the Marauders talented tailback accounted for much of the damage, accounting for 160 (49 rushing, 111 receiving) of the Marauders 207 total net yards, including two big touchdown plays in the third quarter, each giving the Marauders the lead.

After Clark’s first catch and run, in which he broke 5 Muddog tackles on the way into the end zone, the Muddogs replaced starting quarterback Kyto Khouangrasvongsay (2-9-3-41-0) with Muddogs indoor quarterback, Cale Sheppard.  For a moment it looked as if Sheppard was going to be the man to “save the day”. His first pass hooked up with Chris Hooper for 55 yards down to the Marauder 1-yard line. Sheppard took it over the goal line on the very next play and with the kick, the Muddogs lead 7-6.

It didn’t last long, however, as Clark caught another pass for about 10-yards, then broke tackles, rumbled, bumbled, stumbled and then picked up speed and a convoy of blockers en route to big touchdown to put the Marauders ahead for good. 

Marauder quarterback, Ben Wiscombe was also solid, completing 8 of 17 passes for 154 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Defensively, the Marauders got a big time effort from Joe Wiscombe who recorded 7-1/2 tackles and intercepted 2 Muddog passes.  Jason Ball had 6 tackles, including 2-1/2 quarterback sacks.  For the Muddog defense, Jason Mapu had 8-1/2 tackles, including a sack and Kenneth Brecks had 6 tackles with Will Sosi and Junior Viatuu recording 5 a piece.
