Great Falls Gladiators at Glacier Knights, April 16, 2005

COLUMBIA FALLS – The Great Falls Gladiators relied on a solid first half performance to nose out a 12-0 lead over the Glacier Knights and then held on to win 12-6 for their first victory in the 2005 regular season.

Gladiator running back, George Jackson broke a 27-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter and Brad Thurber blocked a Knight punt in the second quarter that teammate, Darius Harper recovered in the Glacier end zone to give the Gladiators the early lead..

It was a defensive struggle throughout with Great Falls amassing only 151 total net yards in the game to only 89 to the Knights.

The Knights, however, also had 9 turnovers (5 interceptions, 4 fumbles lost) in what was likely the ugliest game of the day.

Defensive stars for the Gladiators included Mike Pease who recorded 4-1/2 tackles, including 2 quarterback sacks. Also Brad Thurber (4 tackles, interception, blocked punt) and Mike Rhode (3-1/2 tackles, interception) also came up big.  Chad Kennedy had a solid day rushing for the Gladiators with 11 rushes for 46 yards as 140 of the Gladiators 151 net yards was via the ground attack.

The Knights got a solid performance from tailback, Andrew Wilson (17 rushes, 69 yards) offensively. Defensively, Matt Kinsella recorded 7 tackles and Jason Zielanski (5-1/2 tackles), Tim Crow (5 tackles, interception) and Beau Herman (4-1/2 tackles, sack) also lead a strong defensive performance..
