FORT HALL - The Idaho Falls Mustangs star cornerback, Josh Roth, finished the all-invitational "Fastest Man" race a couple of steps ahead of Davis Vipers quarterback, Terry Smothers and South Ogden Rhino-Raider defensive end, Bill Nebeker to claim the first ever RMFL's "Fastest Man" title.

The total field of competition that Roth ran against was not nearly as deep as it could have been, but, according to Mustangs' teammate, Sean Powell, Roth is still likely the fastest man in the league anyway, "He's the fastest guy on our team. I didn't want to run in the race because I'm pretty fast, but he would beat me by 20 yards, that would be pretty embarrassing!," Powell added.
The 2004 inaugural race was a one-time-only 60-yard dash race for the trophy and the bragging rights, rights that were earned by a player willing to toe the line and face whatever competition that believed could stay with him.
According to RMFL Commissioner, Jared Neumeier, "A couple of the other regarded 'speedsters' seem to pass on the race, and they may have their reasons, but for the 5 or 6 seconds of effort the competition required, the only believable reason that I can think of is the same one that Sean (Powell) suggested...fear of being embarrassed by Roth. That can't be said for Rhino-Raider defensive end, Bill Nebeker. He was right in there! I knew he was fast, but wow! Regardless, it was all for fun and talk, and for a year, no one had the kahuna's to deny Roth the title of the Rocky Mountain Football League's 'fastest man'. Congratulations, Josh!"
