MORGAN - Dan Leak recovered the only Viper lost fumble of the day and rumbled 40-yards for a score, erasing a 7-6 deficit and slipping the Layton Pitbulls by the Davis Vipers 14-7 and squarely into solid playoff contention.

The game was a defensive struggle throughout as both teams enjoyed some, but limited offensive success, like two heavyweights feeling each other out before coming to serious blows. The first blow came just before halftime when Davis Viper quarterback, Terry Smothers found Colby Cook streaking for the end zone and a 39-yard touchdown pass with only 22 ticks before the halftime break to put the Vipers up initially 7-0 at the half.

Midway through the third period, following a 60-yard interception return by Pitbull, James Flynn down to the Viper 21 yard line, Brandon Palmer broke a 21-yard run to pull the Pitbulls to within 7-6. A botched conversion attempt set up the necessity for Leak's heroics.
