UTAH WOLVERINES 34 HELENA 0
MURRAY - Former Salt Lake Stallion and RMFL all-star, Billy Davis made his first appearance of the season for the Utah Wolverines, returning the second half kick-off 98 yards for a touchdown and leading all rushers with 88 yards on 11 carries in leading the Utah Wolverines to a decisive rout of the previously unbeaten, visiting Helena Titans 34-0.
Davis was exceptional, along with teammate, Jeff "Tigger" Edwards who had another solid performance rushing for two touchdowns, and quarterback Daniel Beck (6-12-1-137-1, 3 rushes, 18 yards) looked sharp as the Wolverine offense was solid, but the big story for the Wolverines was an active swarming defense that stifled the Titan running game, limiting the Titans to a total of 8 net yards on 18 carries. Roger Schulze (6 tackles, interception), Jeremy Smith (5 tackles), John Beck (6 tackles, 1 sack), and Matt Shoda (5 tackles, 1 sack) were just some of the stars of a dominating defense that held the league's #3 offense to a meager 87 total net yards on the afternoon.
The Titans did have some great play in the losing cause. Punter Bryan Hilborn, punted 5 times for a 38.4 average and wide receiver, Dave Garza had another fine day catching 6 Shane Jurasek (12-28-1-115-0) passes for 75 yards, including several big first down grabs. Defensively, the Titans were more solid than the score indicated, forcing 5 Wolverine turnovers (3 interceptions, 2 fumbles) and keeping the team in the game into the half, only trailing 7-0 at that time. The defensive charge was lead by Micheal Moe (6 tackles), Steve Rice (5 tackles, 2 sacks), Spencer Steiner (4-1/2 tackles, 1 sack) and Dan Roope (4-1/2 tackles).
