HELENA 17 GREAT FALLS 7

GREAT FALLS - Hollis Huggins raced 24-yards for a score with less than 5 minutes remaining in the game to seal a 17-7 victory for the Helena Titans over the Great Falls Gladiators, clinching a playoff birth for the Titans in the 2004 RMFL playoffs after a one-year absence.

The Gladiators (1-6) played the RMFC North division-leading Titans solid throughout the contest, as the game went into the fourth quarter with the two teams deadlocked at 7-7. After Helena broke out on top late in the first half with a Shane Jurasek to Dave Garza touchdown pass, the Gladiators answered back almost immediately after the following kick-off with a big touchdown bomb of their own, a 62-yard scoring pass play from Dee Jones to Durel Williams that had the two Montana rivals tied at 7-7 going into the half.

Place-kicker extraordinaire, Bryan Hilborn hit a 37-yard field goal with about 5 minutes elapsed in the 4th quarter to give the Titans a precarious lead until Huggins broke loose for the game-clinching score.

The Titans offense got another solid performance from the quarterback/receiver combo of Shane Jurasek (13-26-0-178-1) and Dave Garza, who hooked up for 5 passes for 123 yards and the 29-yard touchdown pass play late in the 2nd quarter. The Titan defense was lead by team leader, Spencer Steiner, who recorded 10 tackles and a key interception for the Titans. Justin Lamb (5-1/2 tackles, 4 sacks) and Micheal Moe (5 tackles) also had big impacts for the Titan defense.

In a losing effort, the Gladiators played perhaps their best game of the season. The Gladiators actually out-yarded the top-ranked Titans 350-314 setting up a great rivalry for years to come. Dee Jones passed for 304 yards and Brad Thurber had a career day catching 9 of Jones' passes for a whopping 151 yards. Durel Williams was the other big player for the Gladiator offense, also going over the 100-yard mark with 102 yards on 3 catches including the big touchdown play.
